What does your group do?
We are a support and sisterhood group for women who have partners with spinal cord injuries. We provide outreach, awareness, sisterhood and support for women all over the world via email, in person events and social media. We value the connections that can be made in person, and are supported by our dedicated WAGS of SCI Ambassadors who provide outreach/event leadership in various cities around North America and the world. We do not have a "membership" per say, but do cater to ALL women who are looking for that extra support from other women in her shoes. We also work hard to provide education and awareness on many levels to the general public - as well as strive to decrease the stigmas associated with "inter-abled" relationships. We value our personal connections with other women everywhere, regardless of how big the distance may be between us.
What is the mission of the WAGS of SCI?
To make sure all women out there who are in inter-abled relationships are supported, understood and empowered so they can be as strong as possible mentally for their partners who need them. Whether that is in person or just online, we want women who's partners are newly injured or have been injured for years to be bonded together by their shared experiences and love for their partners.
What are the future goals of this group?
We are working toward becoming an official Foundation, catering to the needs of women AND couples who are in dual-roll relationships in various ways by delegating donations to deserving couples and women. We believe every couple should experience love, no matter how big the barriers they experience on a day to day basis may be. We also want to be able to host yearly or bi-yearly in person "Meet-ups" where ALL WAGS of SCI can come together in a central location for sisterhood and relaxation. We plan on expanding our speaking engagements, and want to be able to help our Ambassadors plan more events in various cities around the world. Finally, we are working on our plan to sell merchandise, so WAGS of SCI around the world and their partners/family can purchase "gear" in order to show their pride and support for being in our group. All proceeds would go toward the goals of our group (including events, meet-ups, outreach), and the costs associated with expanding and operating WAGS of SCI.
